What is a true friend to you?

What is a friend to me and what friends are for? God knows how eager I am to meet new friends especially Filipina. My first /second year here, I didn’t have any friends. I was longing for it. I prayed constantly for it until one day I met Marie. She was the first Filipina I met. I was feeling very ecstatic when we decided to meet in person. I was nervous and happy for our upcoming meeting. I was a bit worried because it seems like the weather is not going to cooperate but I was wrong.

Our first meeting was at Kmart. My first time of meeting Marie was awesome. She is the answers to my prayers. We exchange numbers and that was how it started. And then in the following weeks, I met Maricel and her husband Bill.

The meeting with them was great, everything was great. I believe they are the answers to my prayers. And now I have a bunch of them. I am really grateful.

What is a true friend anyway? John 15: 13 is the perfect meaning of a true friend. It says, greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friend. I’m not expecting from my friends to do this for me. (LOL) Literally interpretations of this verse seems kind of difficult but with love we can do everything I think.

Who is willing to lay his life for a friend, or should I say what you can do for your friend? Are you willing to lend your ear for a friend? Or are you willing to lend your time for a friend without expecting anything in return from them. In my own version, a true friend are the ones that I can trust, a friend who is constantly there for you, no matter what happens, they are just there for you through thick & thin. A friend who is true to you and accept you the way you are.

Not the kind of person who brags about her $350 bag and tells me I cannot afford to buy it, oh yeah, I know that but you don’t have to tell me that! Honestly, if I have that money, I won’t waste the $350 for a bag. Certainly not that kind of friend I want to keep or worse than that a friend who stabs you in the back. This is not the kind of friend worthy of being cherished.

I like a kind of friend who tells me what is true and what is not, no pretentious! A friend has the guts to tell me I am wrong if I made a mistake rather than compromising. A friend who is willing to lend a helping hand, lending their ears for you.

Anyway, I don’t care what you are and who you are whether you’re beautiful or ugly, black or white, tall or short, rich or poor, famous or unpopular, smart or not, whatever friend is friend to me. I’ll treat you the same way I treat my other friends. That is what it is all about. There’s an adage, a friend for a reason, a season or a lifetime? Let me end this with this question. Are Your Friends Here for a Reason, A Season, or a Lifetime? or Are you a friend for a reason, a season or a lifetime?
