Chosen Prey
I am in the mood to read another Novel for the last few weeks. I love reading romance Novel. Once I start reading a new book, I can't stop reading until it is finished. This is why I don't want to start reading until I am done with my chores first. When I was in high school, I became addicted to reading Novels, I had to make sure I had extra money to buy or rent a novel. It is quite easy for me to finish reading the book in a few hours. Especially if the Novel is written in "Tagalog" and not English (ha ha) unlike English, it takes me a long time to turn the pages, I have to make sure I understand the words and sometimes I have to stop and look words up in the dictionary that I don't understand. Anyway, the last few weeks, Aileen, my friend, came over to my place and she brought a couple of books. She let me borrow them to read. That night, I started reading the Michael Crichton book, “Next”. At the begging it's kind of boring...I quit reading when I realized it's getting very late. I bookmarked it and decided to continue to read more some other time. And I went to sleep. The next day, I read again but with a different book. This time I choose "Chosen Prey” by John Sandford". I found myself interested in reading this one... Not boring but this kind of book is not suited for me... I don't like the kind of books that have to describe every detail. Like how the women are murdered. I usually read at night until 2AM, and I am carried away to what I was reading, I almost don't want to use the comfort room, even if I need to because I am scared! Is that weird, huh? Actually this is my second time reading crime Novel, but this is scarier than the first book that I read. The Novel “E for evidence", A Kinsey Millhone Mystery’. The author is Sue Grafton it is not really scary for me but I am more excited to know who the killer is. but in "Chosen Prey , I know already who the killer is from the very beginning of the book. The killer is James Qatar, He enjoys killing and his method of murder is the rope, strangled the women. He is a psycho freak! This is nice Novel though, I enjoy the investigation part and it's a lot of work...lol, anyway, this is my first time to read Prey Novels but I'm not sure if I want to read John Sanford Novels again. It is a nice book but I don't like crime Novels. And now I have started a new book to read but this time is a romance book. The Title is “Spring Fancy” by LaVyrle Spencer.
Sacramento Cooking Group click the image to view larger Chris, Casey and I were off to downtown last night. I joined the Sacramento cooking and recipes meet up group and our first meet up was held last night 03/04 at Starbucks on Alhambra & N St. They scheduled to meet there at 7:30pm in a semi-private room to the side of the espresso bar. In our first meet up, we got to know each other and came up with ideas for themes. The meeting went very well. We had to talk one by one to introduce ourselves to the group. And share our worst experience in cooking and there was a small prize to the person that won. Jackie was the person who won and she got a cookbook as a gift. Her worst experience is about "The Purple Turkey"! That was a really fun experience she had. And now, since our group is about cooking, my assignment is to bring Baked Olives Balls. The organizer will send me the recipe by e-mail. I think this is fun and I am sure I will enjoy this group because I love to cook and learn different kinds of foods. I am excited for our next meeting. There is Japanese, Filipino, Mexican and American in our group and we're all sharing recipes and experiences!
Job Interview I received an email the other day that said "Safeway will be holding interviews at the SAC EDD on March 8th. Please call them to set up an appointment". I called and I got an appointment for interview on the March 8th at 10:45AM. I am so excited and at the same time I am nervous. I have mixed emotions, happy and scared. I can't stop thinking about the coming interview. But now it's over. I just arrived home from my job interview and I am finally able to relax now...(he he), This is my first job interview in my whole life. I worked in Philippines but haven't experienced being interviewed by anyone. I have no idea what they are going to ask and I am not sure what to answer. Anyway, the interview went well, the woman seemed nice and very approachable. But I am not sure if I will get this job...I am not expecting more but I am happy I finally experience being interviewed for a job. I will be very happy if I can work but I can wait patiently and expect more interviews to come...he he he
Off to Gail's Party
We were invited for a birthday party yesterday at Sorenson's Residence. Aileen's daughter named Gail was celebrating her 3rd birthday. We got to their place around 2:30 in the afternoon. We had a good time at the party. Chris and I were enjoying the food especially the pork/chicken Tocino and Casey too! She had a great time wearing some shoes that was there!
My 3rd Year Arrival Anniversary here in California
I've been reading a romance novel, “Spring Fancy” by LaVyrle Spencer since last week and finally I have a chance to finish reading it last night. It took me a week to finish this one. The story is very common and, in fact, I've watched many movies that are similar to this story and don't enjoy them very much. There's not much excitement and a little boring to me, however I made it! I finish reading it. When I am halfway through reading this book “Spring fancy", I know what will happen next....very usual situation. Anyway, this book is about the bride-to-be who falls in love with another man, and tell you what, it was not surprising that she called the wedding off. I finished reading at 12:42AM, it was not really late for me since I am a night person and feel like I wanted to read more and found myself glancing at the huge selection of Novels I have. I am confused about which one I am going to read first. We got 5O romance novels from free cycle. I think I will be very busy for a few months reading them all. Anyway, I feel sleepy and decided not to read any novels and try to get some sleep. I am just lying down on the bed and realized that last night was my arrival anniversary here in the US. I landed here March 19, 2004 at 6:30pm. I will never forget the day of my arrival in San Francisco airport...I am very ecstatic and nervous at the same time. I am so eager to be with my husband. It was a wonderful feeling when I saw him wearing the red shirt I gave him and he was smiling when he saw me pushing the cart full of baggage. He almost can't see me with all of those stuff in front of me. And now I am trying to think what blouse I wear that day...I know I wears jeans....hmmm, I guess I have to go back to our closet, maybe it will help me to remember. I just really wish my husband had taken a picture of me when he picked me up there at the airport...he said, he was too excited to think about the camera. I know, I am wearing my black leather jacket that my husband gave me on his second trip to Philippines. I am very glad I used it on the plane...because it was very cold. Especially when we landed. The cold made me realize that I am really here in the US. I never feel this kind of cold in Philippines, lol, the cold embraces and greets me as if saying, “Welcome to United States”, but, that very moment, the cold doesn't bother me really because I am too excited and I feel my new home, my second home. I have so much that I would love to share, perhaps someday I will write them all here or maybe you may want to read this: My first experience in California (The travel to California from Philippines) But one thing I know for sure, I have learned aaaaaa lot here! And I am glad I can say I am a little bit more adjusted to the lifestyle here. Now I know and understand that time is precious here....everything so fast and I should be fast too. One time My friend Maricel and I talked about the life here in US, the lifestyle here is fast, it just like you always have to feel you are in a hurry in everything you do. Anyway, I am enjoying reminiscing my first day of arrival here in the US last night and it made me think of my first here...and including the first and only soap opera I've watched during my first 2 months here. I remember it was "passion" and remember that my husband always remind me to turn on the TV every 2pm for passion. And there was only 2 shows I used to watch at night with my husband. It was “M.A.S.H” and "Who's line is it anyway?". And when we do our first grocery shopping, I was feeling very frustrated. I can't see the brand of my shampoo that I was used to using in the Philippines. And everything was new to me. Even the corned beef. I feel like a stranger, those are the times I feel very homesick. Oh here's one thing that I can't do anymore. Last Sunday evening, we were having artichokes, and when we were ready to eat , we realized we don't have anymore mayonnaise. But everything was set on the table and ready to pray. Casey was waiting for us and we were still thinking of what we are going to do... Chris was thinking about buying some across the street. But what's on my mind is, if we are in Philippines, I can just go to our neighbor and ask for mayonnaise and pay back next time we have but we can't do that here. It made me laugh thinking about it. In Philippines it is pretty normal to do that, like you are out of salt and really need to use, you can always ask to neighbors for that, But I am not really sure if we can do that here. Anyway, I have been here 3 years now and looking forward for more years and looking forward for new baby in a couple of years...lol, then I woke up hearing Casey saying "MATA NA Mommy"! It means, “wake up now mommy!” I guess I fell asleep reminiscing about my arrival here.
Meet my sweet Daisy!
Click the image to view larger This is my niece, her name is Daisy. This picture was taken during her prom night. She is one of my nieces whom I love very much and I can't wait to see her again. She is the one who always ask my help to do her school assignments. I miss doing that for her and to my other nieces. I remembered, my 2 months here, they are still asking their assignments to me...it makes me happy and I enjoyed helping them on their assignments. One time I am chatted with my other niece, she said, "How I wish you were here Auntie Nelly" then I answered her "why?" she said," just so you can help me with my term report"...ha ha ha, it's funny! Anyway, I am very happy every time they sent me pictures, it made my day bright! Thank you Daisy for your beautiful pictures!
Friends GT & Spanish Tapas Party
This morning , the three of us woke up at 9:42AM, I am hesitant to get up from bed and just it dawned on me, My friend Marie invited us to come over to their place in El Dorado Hills. Chris got up and headed to kitchen to prepare coffee and was about to take shower but I told him he has a new voicemail and it was from his Supervisor. He hurriedly turned on the computer and did some work online. I called my friend that we'll be late, Chris is working. if we 're not there by noon, presume we are not coming. I took a shower and gave a bath to Casey. Chris just finished working on the computer and headed to shower. We made it our friend's house at just passed noon. We had a good time with friends, I enjoyed eating the shrimps...I think I ate a lot at Marie's place. She prepared a lot of food. Check this out: At Marie's house. We headed home almost 3pm. We enjoyed too much there without realizing the time and now we are in a hurry to get home, I still need to prepare for the cooking group and need to make the baked olives balls. We thought of not going but we decided it’s better to go. When got home, Chris put Casey to sleep and I went to kitchen and prepare the olives balls. Good thing that the baked olives balls are very easy to make. I tried to make this last Wednesday, just want to know how the taste of the Olives balls is, I am not into green olives. I didn't like the baked olives balls the first time I made them. The green olives had a very strong flavor, Chris suggested putting a little bit more cayenne maybe that would help to balance the flavors. When I make it the second time, I put like 1/8 cayenne in it and I only use 2 tbsp of water and this time it taste good and I like it better than the first one I made it. Anyway, we are off to the cooking group today. The dinner started at almost 7pm, I love the Chicken and chorizo empanadas and the Lamb meatballs in tomato sauce. I would love to try to make it. And I love the Almejas a la pescadora- clams a la. They are yummy! Tammi is the one who won and she is the one who made the Chicken and chorizo empanadas. I voted for her and I think she deserves to win! She has a prize for being a winner. I can't wait to make them all. I am glad that there were members from our group likes my baked olive balls and our assistant organizer likes it and even my husband likes it, too! I know he doesn't like green olives and me either. Apparently, with all the foods I ate the whole day my tummy was upset. I overate! I have to take tums to help my tummy feel better. Anyway, here are the photos from our Spanish Tapas party!
